The Vashon Pirates girls basketball team lost to the Seattle Christian Warriors Saturday night in the sub-district title game to decide the number one and number two team to tri-district.
The Vashon High School boys Pirates basketball team completed a perfect Nisqually League season last week by taking their last two games from Life Christian and Charles Wright Academy. This year’s title is the fifth in a row for the successful program under coach Andy Sears.
The Vashon Pirates ended the 2008-09 regular season with two league victories last week, bringing their record to 15-4, or 10-2 in the Nisqually League.
Three girls advance to Mat Classic, the state championship wrestling tournament, and the Pirates were the sixth place team in the regional tournament last Saturday at Emerald Ridge.
At the regional wrestling tournament held last Saturday at Bellevue Christian High School, five tough Vashon Pirates ascended the ladder into the Tacoma Dome where the state tournament will be held this weekend. Once inside the Dome, each wrestler will compete with 15 others in his weight class to determine the best in the state.
Four members of the boys relay team from Vashon’s swim team, the Seals, attended the Division 5 February Challenge Meet, Feb. 7 and 8, in Port Angeles.

The Cougars came into the game on Tuesday only one game behind the Pirates in the Nisqually 1A league.
