A large and vocal Vashon fan base saw their team take second place at the highly competitive regional wrestling competition last Saturday at Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale.
The Vashon High School girls’ basketball team hosted the Cascade Christian Cougars on Friday, Feb 5. It was the final home game for the six seniors, who have been playing basketball together since they started back in grade school. Those seniors — Kate Atwell, Lilly Hennessey, Annika Hille, Siena Jannetty, Melanie Stoffer and Natalie VanDevanter — were honored, along with their parents, during the annual senior night pre-game ceremony, and the girls went on to delight their parents and the home crowd with a 50-40 victory.
The Vashon High School boys basketball team suffered a loss against Nisqually league rival Cascade Christian (Puyallup) on Friday. A determined Cougar team refused to let the festive senior night atmosphere distract them from the difficult task of taking on the Pirates’ league-leading team.
At last Saturday’s sub-regional competition, the Pirate grapplers served notice they are healthy and ready to roll through the post season.
Vashon High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team won two more games this past week, posting a 6-0 record in the Nisqually League and a 15-3 record overall for the 2015-2016 season thus far.

The six seniors on the Vashon High School girls’ basketball team had never beaten the Cougars from Cascade Christian. After a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory in the Cougars’ gym on Wednesday, Jan. 20, they can finally put those demons to rest.
The Vashon Pirate wrestlers closed out their regular season last week and welcome a much-needed two-week break before their post-season run.
The Vashon High School boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Bellevue Christian Vikings (Clyde Hill) at the high school on Tuesday, Jan. 12, and came away with a solid win based on superior speed and aggressive defense.
