On Wednesday, March 23, the Vashon High School girls’ softball team travelled to Robinwood Field to face Forest Ridge in a non-league game.

Vashon got off to a slow start during the midweek match, allowing two runs in the first inning. In the second inning, freshman Mia Knight pitched three strikeouts in a row to retire the side.

The Pirates got on the board in the fourth inning with two runs thanks to a beautiful double from sophomore Taylor Eastly that scored Knight and junior Hannah McArthur. Forest Ridge battled back, scoring a run in the fourth and another in the fifth inning.

Vashon could not string the bats and fell 2-4.

On Saturday, Vashon played its home opening league game against Bellevue Christian. Vashon faced a stellar pitcher from Bellevue, Katie Pippel, who struck out 12 Vashon batters on the day.

The Pirate defense held Bellevue in the first three innings, and both teams went to work in the fourth with Bellevue bringing in two runs and Vashon getting three thanks to single hits by McArthur, senior Lilly Hennesey and freshman Chloe Kuyper.

In the fifth and sixth innings, Bellevue scored two more, but Vashon couldn’t manufacture anymore runs.

The final score was Bellevue 5 to Vashon’s 3. On the day, Kuyper pitched five innings, throwing 37 strikes, with two strikeouts. Knight finished the day pitching 15 strikes, with one strikeout.

The Pirates faced Bellevue Christian again on Tuesday, March 29, after press time. The girls will take the school on again at home on Thursday, March 31, at 4 p.m.

On Monday, April 4, the team will travel to play Washington High School in Tacoma.
