The accolades keep coming for the Vashon Pirate baseball team. Shortly after the state championship final, six Vashon High School players made the 13-member All Tournament team, and two more came in as alternates.

State tournament MVP went to Logan Hawkins, who pitched a stellar first five innings of the championship game. Also making the team were Simon Perrin and Sam Schoenberg in the outfield, Chester Pruett and Ashton Dulfer in the infield and Levi Myer as designated hitter. Honorable mentions went to Clyde Pruett and Sam Yates. Curiously absent from the list was Jeremy Pilgrim-Stoppel, who pitched a complete game shut-out and picked up the gritty win in last Friday’s 1-0 victory over Overlake.

Then, just a few short days after clinching the state title, seven Vashon Pirate seniors were invited to play in one last game together.

On Wednesday, June 1, the group played in the Senior Regional All State Feeder Game at Foss High School in Tacoma. It is a memorial exhibition double header honoring Todd McDougall a long time Olympia teacher and coach. It combines the best seniors from the 1A Nisqually League and the 3A/4A Narrows League.

This year, Pirate head coach Steve Hall was invited to coach one of the teams. He partnered with Pete Peppley of North Thurston High School.

Representing Vashon were Sam Schoenberg, Logan Hawkins, Harper Whitney, Simon Perrin, Jeremy Pilgrim-Stoppel, Chester and Clyde Pruett. The Pirates became teammates for a day with players from Charles Wright, Mt. Tahoma, Foss, North Thurston and Wilson High Schools. Their team took an early lead in game one, only to lose by a final score of 6-4. They won game two 3-0. Logan Hawkins was selected from among the group to play in the All-State game in Yakima on June 11.

It’s been amazing year for the squad, and a remarkable ending to Head Coach Steve Hall’s final year as the VHS baseball coach.
