One Nite Stand will take the stage at the Red Bike

Local blues band One Nite Stand will be joined by guest artists Mike Nichols, Azula, Dianne Krouse and Terri Cole at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike. The free show is open to all ages until 11 p.m., then only 21 and older.

Virtuoso will play at the Blue Heron

Canadian guitar virtuoso Don Alder will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Heron. Alder is a world-class finger-style guitarist who has the reputation of being Vancouver’s “best kept little secret,” despite winning top modern guitar competitions worldwide. His unique style incorporates finger-picking with simultaneous percussion on the soundboard. Alder has been called the “acoustic Jimi Hendrix.” Tickets are $16 for VAA members, seniors and students and $20 for general audience.

Puppet show will entertain and educate

Puppetkabob will present “Snowflake Man” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Heron. Wilson Bentley was the first person to officially recognize that no two snowflakes are alike. Oregon-based master puppeteer Sarah Frechette will bring Bently’s true story to life with vivid miniature scenes and expressive puppets that connect history, science and magic. Tickets are $6 for youth and $8 for adults.

Chamber group will play Russian masters

Vashon Chamber Music will present “A Night in Moscow: Music from the Russian Masters” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church. The Girsky String Quartet and island soprano Jennifer Krikawa will perform.

Tickets are $20 for VAA members and seniors, $24 for general audience and $5 for youth, who are 18 and under.

Rebecca Albiani will talk sensuality and sculpture

Vashon Allied Arts’ art history lecture series will continue with a talk by Rebecca Albiani at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Methodist church.

Continuing with the theme of passion, Albiani will discuss the ardent affair between French sculptor Auguste Rodin and his protegee Camille Claudel. The relationship is said to be reflected, with unprecedented sensuality, in the sculptures of both artists. Tickets are $14 for VAA members and seniors and $18 for general audience.
