LETTER: Support the school levy

Vashon schools

The upcoming levy is important, vote yes for the good of all students

In February, we are being asked to renew the special operating levy for Vashon schools that was passed four years ago.

As parents of three kids raised and educated on Vashon, we have supported Vashon programs for years. Now that the kids are hovering around 50 years of age (if you want to feel old, try that!), we can attest to the quality of educators and curriculum that gave them the foundation to excel in programs beyond secondary school and become contributing, engaged adults.

This levy would commit funds to ongoing teacher training and permit a wider range of AP classes for students with a desire to excel in specific areas where they have found success.

The levy also supports an often underserved community, special needs students. It’s gratifying to see students of all capabilities able to have the tools to reach beyond.

We hope you will join us in support of this important levy by Feb. 13.
