Proposition 1 cheaper in long run

Even if you are immune to the kid-centered arguments being offered in support of Proposition 1, you should still vote for it because it is in your own best interests:

Even if you are immune to the kid-centered arguments being offered in support of Proposition 1, you should still vote for it because it is in your own best interests:

1. Pay now or pay more later. The facilities covered by the bond are more than 50 years old and in bad shape, it is cheaper to replace them now than a few years from now. With deteriorating athletic and fitness facilities our unavoidable reality, it is not a question of if we pay to replace them, but when.

2. Protect your property values. In a recent school ranking (k12.niche.com/d/vashon-island-school-district-wa/rankings/), Vashon High School was well-regarded, except for “sports and fitness,” where it earned its only subpar “C” grade. Someday you will want to sell your house, and a highly rated school district and high school will help tremendously.

3. Support our kids. One day these kids will support us — as leaders and contributors to society. The athletic facilities supported in Proposition 1 help to mold the future generations into productive citizens.

4. Support yourself. The community heavily uses school facilities for athletics and fitness, which is good. Our seniors should have a track that is safe enough to walk around. All of us should have access to facilities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Fifty plus years ago, Vashon residents supported the construction of our current school athletic and fitness facilities. Despite the tax burden, they stepped up to the plate for the good of the community. Now it’s our turn. Whatever your reasons, please vote for Proposition 1.
