Total Experience Gospel Choir returns to Vashon

For close to 30 years, islander Larry Flynn has been a champion of the Total Experience Gospel Choir led by director and pastor Pat Wright. Last July, the choir came to Vashon for what was billed as the group’s final island performance due to Wright’s imminent retirement. But apparently retirement does not preclude performing on Vashon. The choir is scheduled, courtesy of Flynn, for another show at 7 p.m. Saturday at Vashon Island Community Church.

“Pat told me she’s happy to sing for Vashon as long as Larry wants us to come out here,” Flynn said. “I enjoy hearing them every time they sing. Their songs take us away from the affairs of our daily lives and lift us up to a place of joy and peace.”

Since 1973, the choir has performed in 38 states and 22 countries, garnered numerous awards and recorded seven albums. Wright has performed with Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Chuck Mangione, Sweet Honey in The Rock and The Judds among others.

As in the past 26 years of Flynn’s organization of these concerts, proceeds will benefit Bailey Boushay House, which cares for people with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions. Tickets are by donation at the door.
