Vashon Chamber Music will open its new season with an evening of Schubert and Schumann at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Katherine L White Hall.

The concert will feature Seattle Symphony pianist Jessica Choe with lyric soprano, islander Holly Boaz, performing the Schumann piano quintet.

Three upcoming concerts, curated by Artistic Directors Rowena Hammill and Douglas Davis, will include Seattle’s Girsky String Quartet. On Jan. 8, the group will play the No. 1 Rasumovsky Quartet, the first of Beethoven’s middle period masterpieces, as part of the ongoing Vashon Beethoven Quartet Project. The quartet will continue to perform Beethoven’s middle period quartets throughout the spring in a separate series at the Vashon Havurah building.

On Feb. 12, Kevin Krentz, cellist and emcee, will return to Vashon with a program from his acclaimed Methow Music Festival.

Concluding the season, on March 12, the Seattle Symphony’s virtuoso principal cellist, Efe Baltacigil, will perform a solo recital of Bach, Janacek and Shostakovich, with Jessica Choe on piano.
