Published 3:39 pm Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Rita Golden Gelman will read from her latest book, “Female Nomad and Friends: Tales of Breaking Free and Breaking Bread Around the World,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Books by the Way.

The book is an anthology of essays by 41 authors, one of whom is Vashon’s own Janie Starr, known for her work with Sustainable Vashon and other local causes

The book, a celebration of adventurous living, also contains more than 30 international recipes.

The anthology and cookbook is the sequel to Golden Gelman’s bestselling book, “Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World,” which tells the story of how Golden Gelman sold her possessions, left her life in Hollywood and became a nomad — living in mud huts, in royal palaces and on magical islands. Golden Gelman, 70, has now been a nomad for 23 years; her only possessions are the ones she carries with her.
