Celebrate the new year with First Friday gallery cruise

Most galleries and art spots are open from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Hardware Store Restaurant will show photographs by Lori Kay. The island photographer said the objective of her photo images is to evoke emotion. She finds beauty in simple patterns —“like the wind-blown ripples across water, or the run of a fence line across a field, and the shape of row boats sitting at a dock. The repetition of shape, in nature and human made, can form the intriguing harmony for a photograph.”
VALISE Gallery will present “The Process Show” designed to share the creative process of the collective’s artists. Hanna Adams, gallery assistant, said the group wanted to “share our life in the studio, how we get to a final painting, a sculpture, an installation. We all have different approaches to this project.” Everyone is invited to see the results, and artists or “makers of any kind” are encouraged to discuss their own creative process with the collective.
Vashon Intuitive Arts will show mixed media artwork by Anne Gordon.
VCA Koch Gallery’s “Winter Invitational” show will feature local artists Pam Ingalls, Kristen Reitz-Green, Elena Korakianitou, Shawn Nordfors and Jane Spakowsky. The first show of 2017 has inspired new work for the accomplished artists working in oil, porcelain, jewelry, wood, acrylic and mixed media.
