A brand new gallery recently opened on Vashon. It’s located in the heart of town between VALISE Gallery and Gravy restaurant. If you walk by too fast you may miss it, because it’s only 25 inches tall, 20 inches wide and 10 inches deep.
It’s the Free Mini-Gallery, the first of its kind on Vashon, and the ongoing show belongs to everybody. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. The idea is simple: feel free to take home a piece of art and replace it with one of your own creations.
It’s a continuously rotating exhibition that invites the community to take a peek, create and participate. Sponsored by VALISE Gallery and constructed by Vashon artist Trish Howard, the Free Mini-Gallery hopes to engage all ages and persuasions in swapping and trading their visions.
The show will change depending on what islanders bring to share. Who knows what tomorrow may bring? Collage, photographs, mixed media, painting, sculpture? It’s up to islanders, who are encouraged to bring any whimsical animal watercolors or wild abstract paintings they might have been hiding away.
The organizers hope islanders will get involved and share their passions and creations with their Vashon neighbors, and stop by the Free Mini-Gallery and make a swap.
