“Talk on the Rock” with Matt Bergman

Matt Bergman discusses the commonality of how governing powers, of various nations and historical time periods, use female images to achieve their political and military objectives in war and revolution. For illustration, he uses propaganda from the United States, Europe and Russia, which span from the First World War to the Cold War. An exhibition of his private propaganda collection is also on display in Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) gallery throughout April.

This event will be held at the Kay White Hall Theater at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14. Tickets, $15 to $20, are on sale at vashoncenterforthearts.org. Patrons are required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test.

Reed Tetzloff to perform at VCA

Pianist Reed Tetzloff has distinguished himself as one of the brightest stars among a new generation of musicians, with The Cincinnati Enquirer praising him for his “magical tone” and Gramophone Magazine commending Tetzloff for his “ebullient” virtuosity.

Tetzloff will perform at Vashon Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 15. He will perform selections from Brahms and Schumann.

Tickets, $20 to $50, are on sale at vashoncenterforthearts.org. Patrons are required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test.

Eterno El Flamenco Vive

Stop by VCA for a night of Flamenco, featuring Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes and “Flamenco Royalty” Diego Amador Jr. on guitar.

Fuentes is one of the only touring artists in the Pacific Northwest with deep connections to Flamenco culture, with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer calling her work “…real Flamenco, straight and stunning.” She has independently produced more than 300 performances and workshops, featuring internationally recognized Spanish Flamenco artists, including Diego Amador Jr., Saray Munoz and Jesus Montoya.

The event will be held at the Kay White Hall Theater at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Tickets, $20 to $25, are available for purchase at vashoncenterforthearts.org. Patrons are required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test.

Makana to perform at VCA

Makana, the last protégé of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Master Sonny Chillingworth, will make his Kay White Hall debut at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.

Makana’s music has been featured on three Grammy-nominated albums, and Guitar Player magazine named him among one of the top three guitarists in the U.S. in 2008. Currently, Makana is involved in workshops for an original musical that is intended for Broadway.

Tickets, $20 to $40, are available for purchase at vashoncenterforthearts.org. Patrons are required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test.
