The Open Air Aerial Festival — an annual chance to see high-flying feats of derring-do by performers on aerial slings, bungees, and other flying apparatuses — will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, on the grounds of Open Space for Arts & Community.
The presentation, produced by Open Space for Arts and the UMO School of Physical Arts, will showcase work by students of the UMO School, which offers a full slate of parkour, circus, and aerial classes.
Other renowned circus arts performers are also on the bill.
These will include Amy Funbuttons, known for her performances at the Woodland Park Zoo, the Fred Wildlife Refuge and other venues. Performers from the UpSwing Aerial Dance Company, based in Berkeley, California and led by Cherie Carson, will also perform. The company merges dance with rope and harness, low-flying trapeze, and more.
Admission to the Open Air Aerial Festival is by donation, with a suggested donation of $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The show is recommended for all ages.
Audience members are encouraged to bring their own blankets. Walk-ups are welcome, but attendees are urged to RSVP at openspacevashon.com, to give the organizers a sense of how many people to expect at the show. No pets, please.
