Vashon Island Chorale
Vashon Island Chorale will present “Candlelight Carols: Christmas Music by Joann Sebastian Bach and Sir John Rutter,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Vashon Center for the Arts.
The concert will also boast the voices of McMurray Middle School’s Choir, and audience members will be invited to sing along with traditional songs several times during the concert. A group of eight string players from the Vashon Maury Chamber Orchestra will also take the stage.
The 68-strong members of Vashon Island Chorale, accompanied by pianist Linda Lee, will perform under the director of Dr. Gary D. Cannon, the Chorale’s esteemed and long-time artistic director.

Storm Large
Storm Large, a member of the eclectic pop band Pink Martini, as well as a musician, actor, playwright, and author, will present a concert, “Holiday Ordeal,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Vashon Center for the Arts.
Large shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show “Rock Star: Supernova,” where she built a fan base that follows her around the world to this day. She was also seen on the 2021 season of “America’s Got Talent.”
A writer for the publication Musical America gave a glowing review of Large’s talents: “The overpoweringly sexy, clearly sung performance of singer Storm Large conquered all with her sheer force of personality.”

Aliens V. Cowboys
Advanced students of UMO School will present “Aliens V. Cowboys,” a thrilling showcase devised by the performance team themselves in consultation with the school’s instructors and coaches.
Shows take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Performers will include Raena Joyce; El Otto; Gwendolyn Barwick; Amelie Wiegner; Ava Ameling; Fen Eivy; Lena Baldwin-Snell, and Stevie Freitag.
This year’s show plays with the themes of Romeo and Juliet in the air and on the ground. Fights ensue, line dances take over, and love conquers all. Get tickets and find out more at openspacevashon.com.
Holiday films and singalong
See films that celebrate the holidays and winter in the coming weeks.
“Warren Miller’s 75,” an action-packed new snow sports documentary featuring 75 years of filmmaking by Warren Miller, will play at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Vashon Theatre.
Vashon’s annual community holiday singalong will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Vashon Theatre, led by islander Craig Beles as Father Christmas.
“It’s a Wonderful Life,” starring Jimmy Stewart, will have a free screening at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Vashon Theatre.
Holiday showcase
Vashon Events will present a holiday showcase featuring local musicians at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Snapdragon.
The event is a benefit for Vashon Events’ much-used and loved Musical Instrument Library, which lends a variety of musical instruments free of charge to islanders. Find out more at vashonevents.org.
Piano in Kay White Hall
A Gilmore Young Artist and winner of Salon de Virtuosi, acclaimed pianist Janice Carissa will perform music by Liszt, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Medtner, and Schumann, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.

Solstice Concert
Vashon singer and songwriter Kat Eggleston, along with piper John Dally, will open for Keltoi, a Seattle-based band that plays Scottish and Irish music, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, at 15420 Vashon Hwy SW.
Keltoi is fronted by Rich Hill, known for his superb Gaelic singing.
