The public should speak up and be heard by the new park board

This letter is in regards to the recent Vashon Park District commissioner election. I would like to congratulate the winners of the election and wish them all the best.

I would like to thank everyone who worked on my campaign, marched in the Strawberry Festival parade, put a yard sign up, donated their time or money and voted for me. I am proud of the race we ran, and I could not have done it without all the support I received from this amazing community. I am passionate about the parks and the many parks programs that we have here on Vashon; everyone should be as they are vital to our life here. I agreed to run for this office because I care about those programs and parks and the public they serve.

My sincerest hope is that the commissioners go forward in an ethical, considerate, fiscally responsible manner, acting in the best interests of all the residents of Vashon. I spent a great deal of time leading up to the election meeting with representatives from many of the groups that are either partnered with or use the parks. I found them to be well-informed, concerned and willing to work with the park district. I hope that the commissioners will truly act as public servants and listen to them.

I encourage you, the residents of Vashon to attend the meetings and to demand that your voices be heard. The parks belong to you.
