Vashon pool manager deserves recognition

Thank you so much for the excellent reporting on the pool and the support of your editorial. (“Friends group forms around vision for the pool” and “Pool group is young, but its motivation is right,” Oct. 8)

There was one element we Friends of the Vashon Pool felt was left out and that is our impressions of the pool as a place to swim. First, Pool Manager Scott Bonney deserves kudos for mastering the art of maintaining superb water quality.

The pool is clean, clear, has no odor and leaves no residual odor on the skin after swimming. We know Scott has invested quite a lot of time in learning the fine elements of tuning a pool’s chemistry, and it has paid off. Scott also worked out a way to provide cooler water in the mornings for the masters and swim teams and then warmer water later in the day for the children (and teachers) involved in swim lessons.

We have also been impressed by Scott’s evident mastery of the pool’s numbers, including usage, costs and revenues. In our discussions over the past five weeks, he has taught us a lot, and we are truly grateful for his willingness to share his knowledge. We love swimming in the Vashon Pool, and Scott’s skills and dedication deserve lots of credit.
