Stop and smell the roses at Garden Tour

Vashon Allied Arts’ 20th Annual Garden Tour will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 26, and Sunday, June 27. Tour tickets, $25 per person, are valid both days. The price includes admission to five fragrant and colorful Island gardens, as well as free admission to two seminars: Sylvia Matlock will speak on planting on roofs and “living walls” at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at Dig Floral and Garden, and Greg Rabourn, contributor to KUOW’s “Weekday” program, will talk about native plants at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Blue Heron Art Center.

Several gardens will feature live music, and garden art will be showcased in all five. The tour also includes a garden market and perennial plant sale. There is also a pre-tour preview for the most avid gardeners. This event, “Garden Connoisseurs,” takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, June 25, and includes light refreshments at two premiere Island gardens. Tickets for that event are $45 per person, or can be purchased in a package with a complete Garden Tour ticket for $60.
