Don’t let November’s grey weather stop you. Get out of the house for some color therapy during the November gallery cruise at Island art spots. Most receptions take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Blue Heron
The gallery will exhibit paintings by Allison Crain Trundle, baskets by Dorothy McGuinness and jewelry by Zuzana Korbelarova. Cinq á Sept will play music.
Blooms & Things
Origami screens and lamps by Alice Larson and photographs by Robert Teagardin will grace Blooms & Things.
Books by the Way
Books by the Way will feature artwork from Leslie Wu, illustrator of “The Butterfly Tree.” Poems about insects, written by Geri Wilson’s students at Chautauqua, will also be displayed.
Courthouse Square
Courthouse Square, one mile south of town, will be the site of a show of the work of landscape photographer John Anderson.
Anderson will be on hand to tell tales of encountering menacing goats and breaking his leg while capturing the shots. Live music will be provided by Greg Curry.
Café Luna
Photography by Sophie Gagnaire, “Rugged Natural Beauty, Dangerous Creatures & Open Hearted People,” will be on display. Gagnaire, a seventh-grader, captured the shots in the show with a Nikon D40 camera while living in Ghana.
Heron’s Nest
Heron’s Nest will show paintings by Hartmut Reimnitz, small-scale works by Pascale Judet and jackets for furry friends by Dana Lazare.
New Wall Gallery
New Wall Gallery, formerly the site of Two Wall Gallery, will celebrate Veteran’s Day with a showing of American Hero Quilts. The quilt group, headed by Islander Sue Nebeker, has provided 10,000 hand-made quilts injured U.S. soldiers and their families over the course of the past seven years.
Carol Ahlfors, Blooms & Things owner, said future exhibits in the space will be organized by Wallflower Building tenants.
PSCCU
Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union will show paintings by Anne Gordon.
Raven’s Nest
The work of Gunter Reimnitz will be on display. Raven’s Nest will also introduce a series of reproductions designed by Tlingit artist Israel Shotridge, blanket throws embroidered with clan crests, new books about Native art and culture and a children’s gift section.
Uninhibited Ink
Uninhibited Ink, a new spa located in Vashon Village in the old Vashon-Maury Chamber of Commerce space, will show watercolor and acrylic paintings by Islander Lynn Wilhoit, whose work has been inspired by the art of the Fauves and the Cubists.
VALISE
The exhibit “Time” will feature the work of painter Elizabeth Conner and sculptor Carol Schwennesen. Next weekend, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, Seattle artist Vaughn Bell will orchestrate a walk, beginning at VALISE, featuring an artist’s tool for walking called the I Ped. Vaughn describes the I Ped as a “more rustic version of your digital mobile device.” The walk, as well as the Friday reception, are free and open to all ages.
Wings Birdseed
Ina Whitlock will exhibit watercolors created in Paraguaná, Venezula. She will attend the reception and talk about her experiences in Paraguaná in the 1950s, when she painted “en plein aire” and captured the images of a time now passed. Whitlock will also sign copies of her new collection of short stories, “Sketches from Paraguaná.”
