Local businesses, musicians and yoga instructors on Vashon are teaming up to support Ukrainian refugees through two family-friendly events on Sunday and Monday, at The Lodges on Vashon, at 17205 Vashon Hwy. SW.
The events — a community yoga flow taking place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 29, and a live music line-up in the afternoon of Monday, May 30 — are being presented at The Lodges in partnership with O Sole Mio Pizzeria, Mode Music, Vashon Community Brewing Pub, Snapdragon Bakery & Café, Swordfern Agency and Claro Vashon.
The Vinyasa yoga flow, on Sunday, will take place on the Lodges lawn or inside the pavilion, depending on the weather. For all ages, it will be led by Amanda Kelly and will be free to the public and ADA accessible. Nani Clem of Claro Vashon, part of the Lodges Village, will close the class with crystal singing bowls for a sound journey meditation.
All donations received at the yoga event will go to Global Empowerment Mission, a mutual-aid organization on the Ukrainian-Polish border, which offers aid and support to refugees fleeing Ukraine.
Monday afternoon’s concert, “Vashon Unite for Ukraine,” taking place from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30, at The Lodges on Vashon, will also feature food offerings from Vashon’s O Sole Mio Pizzeria and the vegetarian Snapdragon Bakery & Café.
The musical lineup includes local favorites — singer-songwriter Kat Eggleston and the jazz trio, Some’tet, as well as Seattle-based indie-folk act, Mountain Holler.
In addition to food and non-alcoholic refreshments, The Lodges is creating a specialty cocktail for the event.
Each food and beverage vendor will donate a percentage of their profits to UNICEF’s efforts on behalf of children and families in the Ukraine region. UNICEF will also receive all the proceeds from a $15 suggested entry fee to the event.
The Lodges is offering a special discount for American military families and veterans for Memorial Day weekend.
“As a Vashon business that cares deeply about both community and giving back, we are delighted to have the support of so many local businesses as we work together on this outreach and support the work of organizations that serve families, “ said Lodges on Vashon general manager Christine Patterson.
