Open Air, an annual aerial festival presented by UMO Ensemble, will take flight from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug 2, at Open Space for Arts & Community, at 18870 103rd Ave SW.
The outdoor event features a cast of gravity-defying aerialists from throughout the Northwest region. Live music will come from Alchemy, a swinging island band made up of Arlette Moody, Elaine Ott-Rocheford and Rich Dousett. David Godsey will emcee the show.
The opening act of the festival is “Heron Siege Peace Procession,” a stunningly costumed performance created by local artist Leah Okamoto Mann, working with artist Chantal Uto.
The procession is inspired by MagiMai, the 1,000 year old Japanese White Heron dance performed for peace and health.
Other professional performers in Open Air include Al Dente, Sierra Tinhof, Janet McAlpin, Meghan Ames, Sarah Smith, Sun Kittin, Amy Funbuttons, Jen Kramer, Dorian Maffei, Helium Valentine, Clara, and Meredith & Adrienne.
Aerial students, too, will take to the air to display the graceful skills they have learned in their training with at the UMO School of Physical Arts. These budding aerial artists include El Otto, Ava Ameling, Stevie Freitag, Lamai Holbrook, Brinley Hamilton, Roxy Kanjorski, Kieran Seiler and Aurora Youngberg.
Admission to this event is free, thanks to funding from 4Culture, but donations are welcome. Bring your own blankets and seating. Doors to the event open at 3 p.m.
