Two dynamic musical acts headline show at VCA

Two dynamic musical acts, Jesse Sykes with Phil Wandscher and Mike Dumovich, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the Kay White Hall stage.

Vashon native son Dumovich is a singer-songwriter and storyteller who’s worked on previous records and shows with such artists as Eyvind Kang, Laura Veirs, Bill Frisell and Josh Tillman. He is also known for producing fundraisers to support charitable island organizations. His impressive guitar picking expresses the soulful depth of his pensive music, with imagery and metaphors in his lyrics that evoke the pastoral life of Vashon. This concert marks the launch of his fourth album, “The Copper Thieves.”

The New York Times described the music of Jesse Sykes and Phil Wandscher as “spellbinding.” Rolling Stone magazine called it “utterly transfixing.” The two musicians have toured extensively with Iron And Wine, Marissa Nadler, Earth and Father John Misty and have shared the stage with Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. Sykes and Wandscher are recording their fifth album with their band The Sweet Hereafter.

Sykes and Dumovich have been longtime champions of each other’s music.

Tickets are sold at VCA, Heron’s Nest Gallery and vashoncenterforthearts.org.
