Wrestlers soar through grueling season

Last weekend the Pirate wrestlers had an exceptionally tough schedule and came out on top after seven dual meets in a 24-hour period. At the end of the second full week of competition, the small Pirate squad had racked up an impressive 7-1 record.

Island rower Mia Croonquist has won her third world medal, taking silver in a women’s four at the World Junior Rowing Championships last week in Hamburg, Germany.

Hundreds participate in annual Bill Burby run during festival weekend

Nearly 400 runners and walkers kicked off the festival weekend at 9 a.m. Saturday by gathering at the VYFS PlaySpace to meet friends and family to “do the Burby.” This was the 34th year of the event and marked the 25th anniversary of the change in name to honor Bill Burby, a former teacher and beloved coach.

Teens head to Junior Olympics

Olsen edges out two-time winner in Fourth of July hydroplane race

On a calm Fourth of July morning, Karl Olsen won the annual hydroplane race around the island, coming in with a personal best time of 40:19.
